But how do you stand out from all the other photographers at your ceremony? How do you break through the crowd of the wedding after the wedding? Keeping things fresh while still keeping things classic isn’t easy, but that’s where experimentation comes in handy. You need to try something new if you want to keep getting better as a photographer. Here are some tried-and-tested ways that you can keep wedding photography exciting for yourself and your clients.

Shoot with a different lens in your bag

One of the best ways to keep things fresh and exciting as a wedding photographer is to take a different lens out of your bag for each wedding. This is a great way to mix things up and keep things interesting. The types of lenses you can take out are endless; you can try something exotic, like a macro lens, or a more general lens like a wide angle. Or, you can try a different focal length.

All you need to do is keep an eye out for the right wedding so that you don’t forget to bring a lens with you! Once you’ve picked the right wedding, you can keep the rest of the details simple by leaving the lens and filter choice up to the couple. Let them pick the lens that they want to see their wedding through.

Shake up your composition

One of the most common wedding photography mistakes is when you take the same composition for every single wedding. You could be doing this to save time or because you don’t have any other ideas; either way, it’s a bad habit to get into. Simply shake things up with your compositions.

For example, if you’re shooting a couple on a beach wedding, then try something slightly different for the next wedding. Perhaps, a more urban wedding takes place near a city skyline. Or, if the next couple’s wedding takes place in a forest, then you can try something a bit more urban and colourful. But don’t simply change up the beach or forest theme; change up the whole composition by rearranging the couple and/or the wedding party. This can be as simple as moving the couple’s chairs or changing the placement of the wedding party.

Try a new colour palette

Another tip you can try in 2019 is to change up your colour palette. While this might seem like a small change, it can have a big impact.

You can try a completely different palette from the one you’ve been using so far. This can be a change in the primary colours or a shift to a muted palette. You can also try a colour palette like black and white. This could be used to create an artistic look or to create atmospheric look.

Try something new with lighting and exposure

As much as you want to keep it classic and simple, you also need to make sure that you’re experimenting with lighting and exposure. There is no point shooting a couple’s wedding in a dark room and then taking the same approach for all your other weddings. You need to rotate through the different lighting and exposure options so that you’re not stuck in one place.

This way, you can stay fresh as a photographer while still keeping your style consistent. You can try different lighting options like using natural light or an external light source. If you’re using natural light, then you can try shooting in a different location or angle. You can also try a different time of day or shoot using a different ISO setting to increase the grain or create a cool look. If you’re using an external light source, then it can be anything from using a simple lamp to a creative lightbox. You can also play around with the intensity and angle of the light source to create different looks.

Stay consistent with your style and stick to it

This might seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised at how many photographers don’t stick to their style. You need to keep your style consistent so that your weddings feel like weddings. You want to keep the same theme and feel at every wedding.

This way, the couple’s emotions are conveyed through the photographs. This will leave a more personal and intimate impression than if you changed things up. There’s no point changing something that your clients love. If there’s one thing you can do to stand out from the crowd of wedding photographers, it’s to keep your style consistent.

Bottom line

With a little experimenting and some fresh new ideas, you can keep wedding photography exciting for yourself and your clients in 2019. Whether you’re shooting a beach wedding or an urban event, make sure that you’re shooting something new. This will keep your photography fresh and help you to avoid any photography mistakes that could ruin a wedding.

Now you have some tips and tricks to help you keep wedding photography exciting. There are always new ideas and techniques that can be incorporated into your photography style. Experiment with different lighting, a different lens, and new compositions. Remember, the trick to keeping wedding photography exciting is to try something new.
